Wanted to see Golden Gate Bridge and my friend recommend to go to Tunnel Tops is you don’t to go too close.
You can have amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge and SF skyline. The park is nice and well maintained. It is constructed over the highway so can be little noisy.
It is wheelchair friendly as the path are fully paved. If you are in hurry and want to see the bridge, visit this place.
Really a nice place and it’s so big that the kids could never become bored at all , so many different things for them to try and play with, and they even have signs what ages each area is good for. Really enjoyed this park we are for sure going back we loved it. And then you can even walk on the beach.
San Francisco has outdone itself with the Presidio Tunnel Tops recreation area built atop the Presidio Parkway tunnels. You may have driven into or out of the City many times without even realizing this urban oasis was just above you! It has become one of my favorite places to just relax and hang out in SF.
The various community organizations, activists, health experts and artists involved in its planning and construction deserve a lot of credit for helping to create a beautiful, relaxing, and fun space for everyone.
If you are driving, there is usually paid parking available near the Presidio Main Parade Lawn. Tip: parking is free on holidays.
Grab a bite to eat from one of the many food trucks featuring a rotating assortment of top notch ethnic cuisines. (The Packistani and Indonesian food is to die for.) I'm pretty sure these trucks are available every day of the week, year-round. Take you meal either to the large grassy Parade Lawn, or across Lincoln Blvd. to the Tunnel Tops. There are plenty of picnic tables, benches, and other places to eat.
If you have children, you MUST take them to The Outpost playground. This is a playground unlike any you've ever seen, containing no traditional off-the-rack playground structures, but rather amazing custom, interactive play spaces made of trees, stones, and other natural materials. There is so much to discover here; all the kids are genuinely thrilled to play in such a unique, creative environment.
Tunnel Tops has spaces for flying kites, meeting friends, or playing Frisbee. There are quiet spaces for talking, meditating, or just taking in the views of the Golden Gate Bridge or the Palace of Fine Arts.
The park is landscaped with indigenous plants, all meticulously cared for by staff and volunteers. The entire park is well maintained, clean, safe, and fully accessible for those with disabilities.
Be sure to spend some time in the Visitors Center. (Read my separate review of it.) I highly recommend Tunnel Tops as a great way to just hang out for a relaxing afternoon, especially if you're a local.
What a great park to visit even for SF locals! Dog park, food trucks, gardens, visitor center, Disney museums, hotels and restaurants all within walking distance. Great for family, staycation, romantic getaway. Clean, spacious, full of history to remember the glorious Presidio and SF expedition🥰 …
Really special, wonderful spot ---
Fantastic playground for kids
Curving paths
Lots of benches - some have tables
Accessible for mobility aid users
Incredible views of Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Marin hills.
Wonderful Visitor Center - with lots of information about natural and cultural history, plus special events, and gift store. Super helpful staff, too.
Accessible restrooms.
Lots of green areas for hanging out.
Dog friendly - but keep on leash.
Beautiful California native plants and drought resistant landscaping.
Food trucks on some days.
It was noon time Sunday, and I could find many kids with their parents, couples for dating, families for picnic. I believe this area is the cleanest place physically and can find the happiest humanbeings’ smiles in SF region.
Nice mix of a park, picnic area, playground, and transit center. It is always a good place to eat your lunch or dinner or even breakfast if you come early and see the sunset. The vies of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge are immaculate and I wouldn’t trade it for anyone else. Good place to hang out with friends and such if you have them.
Such a beautiful park. Enjoyed our walk to the Golden Gate Bridge. Plenty of spots to the enjoy awesome views, relax, eat. Few food trucks with great tasting food. Definitely our new favorite place in San Francisco.
